Kalk Bay Harbour Wall
LOCATION: Kalk Bay, the harbour wall.
ACCESS: This dive site is best reached by jumping off the harbour wall, some 2 - 4 metres high, depending on the tide. The exit is by means of a steel ladder in the wall. It is not easy with full dive gear so it is best done in 2 trips, with one buddy in the water while the ferries the gear up. An easier alternative is to enter of exit off the shelving rocks to the south of the harbour.
CONDITIONS: This site can only be dived in very calm conditions, usually in mid-winter. It is absolutely essential to carry a knife as there is a lot of discarded fishing line, in which you could become entangled.
AVERAGE DEPTH: 5m
MAXIMUM DEPTH: 6m
Although the seabed is littered with old tyres, fishing line and bits of net, it is an interesting dive. Most locals dive this site to recover lead sinkers.
